Now this news makes me angry. I had real hope after seeing Avatar and imagining Thundercats done in a similar way, and it made me feel great, while I was watching Avatar. Now, look at how well theyve done Transformers, and G.I. Joe, of which I am also a big fan. I wasnt as big a fan of Transformers when I was a kid, but Thundercats and G.I. Joe were staples of my growing and development as a child in the 80's. What saddens me, is with what Avatar has now done to the movie industry, and what weve seen with Transformers, does this mean that with Thundercats not being made, that Voltron (im also a fan of this) is doomed to end up shelved as well? How many Thundercats fans do you think are out there that are also fans of these other 80's toons that have turned into box office magic? I will tell you how many....most likely were in the MILLIONS. That just means that if Thundercats is never made, that that just means hundreds of millions of dollars of potential revenue for Warner Bros. lost and washed down the toilet. And MILLIONS of angry fans spamming the net and WB that they want Thundercats on the big screen and done right. It took WB 20 some odd years to get the cartoon on dvd to us, and they foibled that with missing soundtracks!  argue BangHead cussing Now, with my rant fully out in the open, am I wrong in my opinion to hope that if Thundercats is not made, or sold to another studio, that I say we DEMAND it be done like Avatar, that CGI just isnt enough, and not make us fans wait another 20yrs for a movie weve been dreaming about since Thundercats was created and viewed by children of the 80's? And run the risk of another studio making Thundercats into a flop?

Oh and I just checked Internet Movie Database (IMDb) Thundercats is now slated for release in 2012 instead of 2010.

The other silly thing is that they are going to lose their target audience. Those of us who grew up with it, are having kids who will want to see it as well, if they wait too long, the fan community will have dwindled. I can't  see myself at age 50 taking my 21 year old to go watch Liono anmd snarf running around. well, Maybe i willl, but you get the idea.

Timing is everything.

I also agree with the avatar comments and comparisons.  I commented on the Rant's wall before I read what you all had to say here. They can totally do it now. Maybe we should send James Cameron the DVD box sets and see if he perks an interest

Thats an excellent Idea Ranger! But the question is, would the mighty James Cameron invest the same amount of time (4+yrs) and money into Thundercats? Maybe if we made a petition and somehow got it to Cameron, and got him interested, and have him make it for 3-D viewing, we would have to wait until 2012-2013. But it would be well worth the wait. Weve been patient this long. Maybe we can get Larry Kenney to get the petition to Cameron, since Larry might have easier time with connecting to him. What ya think? Sending a petition to Cameron to "research" Thundercats, and get Warner Brothers butts in gear? I know Purrsia is expert at getting chats together with Mr. Kenney, though I put this out there.  BangHead Why does it seem that a Thundercats fan's voices always seem to go unheard?

I don't think Cameron would do it, but there are many other creative and wonderful directors who would love the chance to direct this movie. And Ligerlynx brought up an interesting thought with the IMDb new release year. If they have changed the date, then most likely they are not giving up on the movie. If they had decided not to go ahead with it, then the Thundercats Movie reference would have been removed completely or said "No longer in production"

So there is hope.

It's unfortunate there won't be a movie anytime soon, but if postponing it gives someone the time to do it right, it's all for the best.  Besides, TCats hasn't had official new content in several years except the upcoming statues.  I know Transformers and Joe at least had comic books being published prior to their movies.  Not to mention new toys.  TCats needs something to keep it going.  Toys, comics, a new show, something.

I have never been a big fan of the movie idea. I would prefer to see another animated series (of course the self-centered fan fiction writer inside me screams NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! to anything new).

Guys this wasn't really news though... thundercatslair.org carried the news that the movie was placed on hold, which we verified with those working on the movie back on Aug 2nd 2009.

Well, X-Men was smart enough to be sure Stan Lee was involved,

And Superman made sure DC comics was involved.

Maybe they should get Bankin-Rass on the line with Larry Kenny on a conference call and start making a serious stab at something.

The Smurfs?! Are you kidding me?!!! They can the Thundercats movie but they are willing to shell out the bucks for a stupid Smurfs movie?!!!!!

I have nothing against the smurfs(at least not much) but Thundercats are 100% better. I'm not sure if I should laugh, cry, puck or all three.

Isn't Bankin-Rass defunct?

Let's not fool ourselves here: Thundercats, while a popular 80s cartoon, is kind of difficult to justify making a full budget film on. It never had the logical consistency of GI Joe or the insane popularity of He-Man. Don't get me wrong, I love Thundercats. However, I do not think the show will ever be revived, partially because it's toy line was never that popular or extensive. Another problem is logical inconsistencies. Thundercats was actually very poorly written for the most part.
